It is easy to see the similarities between Caliban and Grendel when it comes to outward appearance. Although Caliban looks like a monster, he is actually the son of a witch hag and the devil. However, anyone who sees him thinks of him as a monster, not as a deformed human. This is true for Grendel as well. Grendel is a descendent of Cain (who was human) and Grendel�s mother is also portrayed with human-like attributes. Both are hideous creatures who frighten most that come in contact with them, especially Grendel.
