The ethnic group that I belong to and would like to learn more about is the Polish. I am part Polish from my paternal Grandfathers side of my family. He died when I was really young so I don�t know anything about my ancestry on this side of my family. Today over 9 million people in America, including almost 230,000 Texans are of polish descent. Poland is located in northern Europe and is bordered by several countries including Germany and Russia. Poland�s population is around 38 million and Warsaw is the capital with almost 2 million alone. Poland has a long and complicated history; the country has seen war and has been divided, conquered, and eventually regained their independence in 1918. In 1939 Germany began World War II by invading Poland. The Germans swiftly subdued the country and imposed a regime based on the principles of National Socialism, which included the systematic extermination of Poles and Jews (Znaniecka Lopata).
