The story �The Gospel According to Mark� by Jorge Luis Borges is about a medical student named Baltazar Espinoza, whose life is changed when his cousin Daniel invites him to spend vacation to La Colorada ranch. Espinoza discovers that religion can be literally misinterpreted by religious devotions. The Gutres family takes religion teachings too seriously by taking drastic measures to ensure their place in heaven. The setting shows why the story is developed in this certain place. Characters are converting themselves throughout the story. The symbolism shows the different stages of the story and the irony of the ending is crucial to comprehend each characters transformation. The setting of the story takes place in the southern part of the township of Junin in Argentina, where La Colorada ranch is located. The story develops in March of 1928; is usually easter in catholic faith. Argentina is a catholic country and in this period catholic followers celebrate the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. The ranch is big and it was close to where the ranch foreman and his family live....
