The subject, while attached to the polygraph machine, must respond to a series of questions to measure the person�s honesty. Any great physiological change during a particular question is said to indicate deception (Inbaw 44). Employers use polygraphs to weed out dishonest or prospective employees and �as a means of curbing employee thefts, a multibillion-dollar-a-year headache� (Gugas 6). In fact, fifty percent of all retail employers at one point required that a prospective employee take a polygraph test. Banks, police departments, and guard agencies have made similar demands (�Tests Untrustworthy� 16). Despite wide use, much debate surrounds testing. Supporters praise it, it is true.
