Brief Summery of the book A Time to Kill takes place in Canton, Mississippi where a little ten year old girl by the name of Tonya Hailey was brutally raped by two drunken rednecks named Billy Ray Cobb and Pete Willard. The two boys were caught by Sheriff Ozzie Walls and were but on trial for rape and attempted murder. While the two boys were on trial Tonya�s father Carl Lee Hailey takes justice into his own hands by hiding in the janitor�s closet of the courthouse and shot down the two boys with a M16 that he had gotten form a Vietnam buddy. Now, for killing the two men Carl is put on trial for murder and is being represented by Jake Brigance who previously represented Carl�s brother Lester Hailey for murder also. Throughout the book Jake goes through tough times trying to protect Carl�s life and his own, dealing with the KKK and racists Jake finally makes a name for himself by winning the case. Setting This book takes place sometime after the Vietnam War in Canton, Mississippi. Canton is a small town that still has some racism in it. The book opens up with the rap....
