Lowering the Legal Drinking age to 18 When a person turns 18 there are many responsibilities given to them in our American society. The right to marry, sign contracts, be drafted or enlist into the armed forces, and also the right to vote. Since 1984, there was been one glaring absence in these responsibilities, the right to drink alcohol. I chose this topic because it is one that seems completely ridiculous considering some of the other things that we allow our 18 year old Americans to do. The biggest factor for me is that we can send our kids off to war to die for their country, but we can't even give them the right to drink an alcoholic beverage. We entrust them with this huge responsibility of protecting and fighting for our nation, but we can't even give them the opportunity to drink responsibly. Something just doesn't seem right with this. The reason that this law was put into effect is that it was thought that it was going to lower alcohol related deaths in teenagers on the highways. Did this work? Actually, everything considered, no. You could definitely make a case that....
