I would have to say that I have traveled to many great sites throughout our land, but I would have the feeling that I am about to experience a moment in life that will always be remembered. Our enemy, the Confederacy, will not seem to drop slavery. It is not needed, it is cruel, and I will fight with everything I have to make sure it ends. As a citizen and soldier of the Union, I am confident to say that we will win this war. General Sherman is ordering us to be up early tomorrow to meet with the main army at a new campsite near Gaylesville, Alabama. The morning has hit fast. It was so difficult to sleep in the cold, frosty weather. Many people have already woken up with illnesses and, lucky enough, I am not one of them. We set out quickly and the sun has still not risen. After a lengthy march that lasted several miles we are finally at the new camp site. The word is that we will begin stripping Confederate railroads, burning their crops, killing their livestock, and pretty much putting in as much damage as we can to the southern states as we can to weaken and destroy them.....
