Opening of the two plays The two plays that I am going to talk about here are: Twelfth Night; The Way of The World. Way of The World: - This play opens in a chocolate-house. This was a place where people relaxed and had chocolate. The audience gets an idea about the society of that period. The two main characters, Mirabell and Fainall are introduced to us playing a game of cards. The audience gets to know another aspect of the society of that time that is, gambling. The audience sees that Fainall has won all the games that night and he asks Mirabell what the matter was and that it was never like this before. He asks him if he had quarreled with Millamant. This tells us that there is something going on between Mirabell and Millamant. Mirabell replies that he actually had walked out on her the previous night when Mirabell, her mother Lady Wishfort, Petulant and Witwoud, Mrs. Fainall, Mrs. Marwood and some other women were whispering and complaining about Mirabell being there and hence he walked out.
