The novel I studied was "Gathering Blue" by Lois Lowry. The mysterious title caught my attention instantly and I was eager to read the novel. I realized that throughout the book, I had the same feeling, eager to keep on reading. The reason I think I felt that is because throughout the novel, the author used various literary terms to draw readers into the book. I found that there were three main literary techniques that Lois Lowry used. FORESHADOWING: I found that the entire novel was very suspenseful. I realized that throughout the story, besides anticipating what would happen next, I was also using many reading skills without even noticing. The novel, and the way it was written, forced me to infer between the lines, predict, and connect to the storyline. I think the reason for this is because the author used foreshadowing. This literary technique is used to build suspense and I think the author did an accurate/efficient job when using this literary technique.
