In the novel Fifth Business by Robertson Davies we are introduced to three male characters, Percy, Paul and Dunstable. These male characters grow up in a small town of Deptford which they can�t wait to get out of. They all change their names through out the novel because they want to dissociate themselves with some part of their childhood. Percy changes his name because he wants to create a better image for himself than the image of a small town boy. Paul changes his name because he was to be dissociated from his mother�s label of a town outcaste. Dunstan allows his name to be changed because he wants to belong into a social group.
