Walking Naked by Alyssa Brugman is a novel about the friendship of two girls, Perdita and Megan. Perdita can be easily related to the wolves in Andrew Taylor’s poem; Megan could use the poem to justify her later actions toward Perdita. Andrew Taylor’s poem Regret about the Wolves is a metaphor for the way we treat and act around people who are slightly different than we expect them to be. If only the wolves would howl less loudly we wouldn’t have to explain the way they sing. Perdita has a reputation of being the freak, at school she is mocked and ridiculed, consequently Perdita plays up to freak role and does strange things to scare the other students. When Megan becomes friends with Perdita and tells Candice about their friendship. Megan finds herself trying to justify herself and her friendship with Perdita. When Candice finds out she is very surprised “the freak. Why?” when Megan hears her reaction she tries to validate for Perdita “No Candice you don’t understand I didn’t believe it at first either, you should meet her I think you’d like her”. Perdita, like the wolves ....
