Concerning the issue of women in prison, I don�t believe that male guards should be allowed to work in female prisons. If this is not possible, then only female guards should only be allowed to do pat-frisks on the female inmates. Many of the people, especially men, who are hired to work in prisons are unbalanced and have a controlling personality, and they get a thrill out of being in power around these women. I think that the position of prison guard should become a professionalized position, or there should an increase in supervision. In Michigan State Prison, many women have reported some instance of sexual abuse. In 1998 alone, there were 24 cases of sexual misconduct. Many women, though, are too frightened, because of threats by guards and being labeled a snitch, to report abuse. Geraldo Rivera quoted that sometimes these prisons are more like �peep shows than prisons.� Sexual abuse is not the only form of abuse suffered by female inmates. In 1994, one woman, who suffered from seizures, was put in isolation. She was accused of being assaultive and a danger to her....
