A Tragic Topic: The Deaths of Romeo and Juliet The names of "Romeo" and "Juliet" passed through time in our language as a symbol for love. For centuries, no other story established itself as a more influential, prominent and emotional tale than the "Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet". In the play "Romeo and Juliet", the unexplained hatred between the two families and the protagonists irrational decisions trigger a series of events fated to result in Romeo and Juliet's tragic deaths and the catastrophic ending of the play. The idea of fate functions as a crucial theme throughout the story. From the beginning , the chorus describes Romeo and Juliet as "a pair of star-crossed lovers" (Prologue 1.6).
