The Cask of Amontillado Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Cask of Amontillado In The Cask of Amontillado there are three main characters, Fortunato, Montressor and Luchessi. Montressor being the protagonist and the storyteller we learn from him that he has a grudge against Fortunato, our antagonist. It seems apparent that Fortunato has done Montressor some wrong and he seeks revenge in the form of killing him slowly. Fortunato has been lording over Montressor and Montressor has had enough. Fortunato pretends to be a wine connoisseur but Montressor refers to him a “quack”. This is one example of his dislike towards Fortunato. The story begins with Montressor allowing us to see that he has thought out his plan and yet it will be revealed as the story is shared. This form of storytelling kept me interested in the story, it was his hook. Montressor leads Fortunato down to his family cellar with the inclination that he needs some help with clarifying whether some wine he had bought was the real deal. Fortunato being a wanna-be expert obviously allows his pride to pull him into Montressor’s scheme. The climax of this story c......
