Description of early childhood setting and community
The early childhood setting I am evaluating is an urban centre with families from multicultural background. Most of the children are English speaking from New Zealand, England, and South Africa. There are also families with English as a second language from Fiji, Vietnam, The Philippines and China.
The centres philosophy states that We will endeavour to welcome all children and their families/whanau and to observe and respect the diverse cultures and backgrounds of our families. Our aim is provide an environment that is conducive to enabling children and families to have a sense of belonging.
The teaching team uses bicultural learning tools and instruction and implements bicultural language into daily practice.
The centre is very aware that the inclusion of bicultural resources encourages children to value their own culture and affirms the child as an individual.
The centre reflects the learning of the children in planning stories, learning stories......
