My Book Review on ‘SKELLIG’ By George Styles 7ra Book Name – Skellig Setting – This book is set on Crow Road at Michael’s new home Context – It is set to the present day Author Name – David Almond Author Technique The author technique used here is very effective. He writes in the first person. (Being the character Michael) The description he uses is very effective because when Skellig is eating 27 and 53, on page 27, he uses very strong phrases and refers to the fact that he is very old, weak and injured, with the phrase: “…like congealed blood…” and “…like a dark red net…” He also uses a good amount of similes and metaphors such as on page 74: “Their pale skin bloomed in the torchlight.” He also uses metaphors in the various descriptions of Skellig. He also uses a lot of onomatopoeia, especially in the description of Skellig eating the takeaway. In this he uses: stuck, dipped, licked, hooked, slurped, shoved, groaned and trickled all in 2 paragraphs! David Almond doesn’t use much personification but there is one or two phrases such as the clo......
