Todays generation of young children is often referred to as the Supersize Generation. We are now seeing and hearing about this even in our local news. The headline in the Tryon Daily Bulletin on March 26, 2007 reads Polk mother begs DSS not to take her overweight child away. Her son Justin, seven years old, weighs 254 pounds. It aired on WSPA News Channel 7 and later was included as a feature story on CNN.com. She was reported to DSS as feeding her son all the time, causing him to be overweight. DSS has given her two months to get her sons weight down or they are going to remove him from her home. This is a sad story to me. I do not fault her for feeding her son, but she should have realized there was a problem and tried to find a solution before it made the news like it did. It could be a medical problem or an overeating problem, but either way she is the adult in this picture.
