The Construction of Aboriginality in the Feature Film 'Radiance' Radiance, a feature film directed by Rachel Perkins, tells the story of sisters reuniting. Three Aboriginal women, Mae, Cressy and Nona who have been separated from one another almost all their lives, are drawn back to the family home for their Mother¡¦s funeral. Many deep feelings, which have been suppressed over the years, begin to surface in each of the women and are the basis for much of the film¡¦s conflict. The aim of this essay is to establish plausible reasons as to whether this feature film constructs Aboriginality, or whether Aboriginality bares no significance, dealing only rather, with issues of grief and family. It will be pointed out that despite certain universal concepts the film addresses, Aboriginality is the foremost issue provoking the troubled lives of these women.
