Romeo and Juliet is a very famous romantic tragedy written by William Shakespeare and in this essay I am going to discuss the ways in which Shakespeare, and indeed all plays, has created a thrilling and intriguing piece of writing.
There are many techniques that can be used to entrap the readersÂ’ attention during a play.
At the outset of this play Shakespeare provides the readers with a clear exposition. This means that he sets the scene, time date etc. and helps the reader understand what the play is actually about. In Act 1, Scene 1, two servants from the Montague House, called Sampson and Gregory, engage in a fight with two servants from the Capulet House, called Abraham and Balthazar. This fight clearly sets the scene for the while play because the play is plainly about the conflict and fighting between the two houses. So this opening scene is very clever because it enables the reader to fully comprehend the rest of the play.
