Fine art comparison - The death of the virgin Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
A comparison of Italian artist Andrea Mantegna and Flemish painter Hugo van der Goess works of the Death of the Virgin demonstrates a combination of influences of the early fifteenth-century Renaissance, which resulted in the improved painting techniques, development in science, and a better understanding of the nature around them. Although they are contemporary works, apart from their superficial similarities, they are different on many grounds.
First of all, compositional arrangement of the two paintings suggests the most revealing difference. Mantegna followed Bellinis scheme and set his scene clearly in a long narrow chamber, with the catafalque standing in the middle at the rear of the ground. The singing apostles are aligned in groups of three or four, lining the rear and the sides of this vaulted architecture setting except St Peter, who is in the center. At the further end of the chamber, is a large arched window through which the perspective view of watery landscape is made visible.
