A Doll’s House. A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen is a powerful play about the struggle of a woman for independence in the 19th century where society was male dominated. Nora is the perfect wife, or as she refers to herself a ‘Doll’. She has had a life of indulgence from her husband and father with no independence expected to be a perfect wife and mother. The message that is often received through Ibsen’s play is the life women, in particular Nora had to endure. Women were living in a male dominated society with little or no equality. It follows the formula of well-made play up until the final act, when it breaks convention by ending with a discussion, not an unraveling. It is often called the first feminist play. This play is still very relevant in today’s society as we still have women who fight for power and face prejudice and sexism. There are various types of drama that have been formed through the years.
