“Address Unknown” is a riveting piece. It is hard to determine exactly how to feel as the story unfolds. Using pure emotions can make it difficult to make good decisions and judgments. If you use the ethical theories discussed by MacKinnon, it seems easier to make true ethical judgments. It’s like being on a jury. You know the rules and guidelines you are given to judge a person or act by; however, you may still feel a perpetrator is “innocent” because a victim deserved what happened to them even though laws were broken. The statements made about the characters may seem easy to agree with, until you take them apart using ethical theories. Let’s look at the statement concerning Martin, “He got what he deserved.” According to Kant’s Moral Theory, Martin made the right decision concerning Griselle and Max. He followed the duty his government gave him. Using Utilitarianism, he made the wrong decision.
