“Shakespeare in Love” Shakespeare in Love, which was structured linearly, was directed by John Madden and released in 1998. It was said to be the “greatest love story never told” by film critics. The movie was set in 16th century London and in a nutshell, is about a young, ambitious William Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) who is short on money and ideas. Shakespeare’s love interest Viola (Gwyneth Paltrow) has always dreamt of being an actress, however, being the 16th century London, woman as actors were strongly looked down upon. Woman roles in plays were even played by men, who dressed as woman. But when Viola dresses as a man and auditions for a part in a play, she gets the part. This was not a problem until William Shakespeare and Viola, are caught being romantically involved, and Juliet is forbidden to ever act again. Once this happens, Shakespeare is greatly inspired and is able to write his ever so famous play, Romeo and Juliet. Before long, Juliet sneaks back onto the acting scene and steals the show.
