Character Analysis of Abigail Williams Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

It takes a strong person to lead a group of people. It takes an even stronger person to lead a group of people in a lie. Throughout the years there have been many instinces of people being led down a road of lies in order to cover up their own actions. When ever a person of high status does something society thinks is morally wrong they cover it up and get a group of people to cover it up with him. Arthur Miller shows a great example in his play The Crucible. The character Abigail Williams is caught in the woods doing things of witchcraft that the town of Salem thought was morally unacceptable. She gets all the girls together and comes up with outlandish stories of "the real reasons behind their actions." Abigail jumps out as the leader in this instance and reveals her true character, one that is founded upon selfishness, manipulation and promiscuity. In the play The Crucible Arthur miller portrays Abigail as being a very manipulative young women.
