Comparison and Contrast Situational comedies are a lost art form in our modern age of television. Recent classics such as Seinfeld, King of Queens, and Arrested Development have been gone for quite some time and the lack of quality comedic programming in their place is noticeable. It seems that the new comedies just try too hard to be funny. The jokes are trite and the characters seem like hollow shells of the great comedic souls of yesteryear. Shows like Arrested Development and Seinfeld had original characters, themes, jokes, and dialogue that captivated their audiences and critics alike. It seems as though shows nowadays tradeoff quality for viewership or vice versa.
