Loyalists of King Lear Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Three characters showed their bravery by staying loyal to their loved ones. Shakespeare once wrote a tragedy about a king from Britain, he named it "King Lear". The first is Gloucester and Lear who both are old men who seem so blind to the truth; this could be Shakespeare saying old age doesn't always mean wisdom is present. The second involves a sect of people who could be described as heinous and immoral creatures. The last involves three of the most important characters. Though being banished, they all refuse to renounce their loyalty. Gloucester's legitimate son, Edgar, gets banished as his half brother betrays him to their father. Edgar is sentenced to death and fleas before capture. He disguises himself as a beggar to stay alive and never gives up on the truth. Cordelia refuses to lie to her father unlike her evil sisters. She gets banished for refusing to do as the king says and moves to France. Even after he disowns her as his daughter she still comes back to fight to get Lear back to his rightful throne.
