Urban Villages Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
An urban village sounds cool and futuristic. When I think of an urban village I think uniform (yeah actual clothing). I think of people having succinct representative thought and are of like mind, but still diverse and inclusive.
For this lab activity I was to explore four markedly distinct urban neighborhoods that have come to represent urban villages. Each area, with the exception of Gaslight village and West Leonard, is part of a larger micro -region (Neighborhood Ventures, 2007). My goal with each visit was to gain an understanding of the economic activity, by way of review of the commercial establishments located in each area, and neighborhood composition by analyzing demographic characteristics / trends according to census data.
Urban village, as stated on the lab activity sheet, are clusters of commercial activity spread throughout urban areas.
