I believe that it is accurate to state that "the absence of language amounts to annihilation" because towards the close of the poem "Nothingness" by Aharon Amir, the speaker suggests that the absence of language amounts to annihilation, as without language people will "no longer [know] who or what" they are and they would become "no more" (19, 20). This line in the poem suggests that the speaker fears becoming "inarticulate" and having "everything stripped of everything" (10, 14). These lines refer to the speaker's fear of living a life with "no sign of language, no writing, no alphabet" because if these things did not exist, people would not be able to distinguish themselves from others. Therefore resulting in becoming "no more", meaning there would be no words or symbols to represent and differentiate them from others (2, 20).
