Describe the status of blacks in the mid 1950s. How did the status of blacks change up to 1958 as a result of the contributions of individuals and groups?
Black Americans in the mid 1950s-1958 faced huge amounts of discrimination and inequality to that of white people. The status of blacks can be seen through poverty, involving economical disadvantages and very low housing standards, educational disparity particularly relating to the south and also fiercely practiced segregation. This segregation brought Jim Crow laws to the south.
The status of Blacks slowly moved through political movement (unrest), vocal expression by people such as Rosa Parks and Thurgood Marshall and non violent protests such as sit in's and boycotts. The NAACP also helped the advancement of black's movement by enforcing and attacking black rights. The Linda brown case and Central high school were some movements towards getting equal educational rights, which the NAACP got involved in.
