“Each morning when I awake, I experience again a supreme pleasure – that of being Salvador Dali” (Miesler, 2005). These were the typical sentiments of arguably the Twentieth Century’s most eccentric and successful artist. “Dali”, the mere mention of his name conjures images of a mad wizard with bulging eyes and a gravity-defying handlebar moustache. His artwork provides a peek into the intimate inner world of a man’s subconscious. His fantastically irrational, sometimes grotesque, dreamscapes give the unsettling impression of psychological hallucinations. His works paradoxically mingled classic examples of realism with impossible distortions of space, time, and matter. He would at one point remark, “I don’t do drugs. I am drugs” (website). While accurately described as both clown and genius, Salvador Dali is most importantly an artist.
