1. Introduction
In recent years, the importance of second language learning has increased due to globalisation. Communication has expanded far beyond earlier communication communities; and through the internet world wide communication is as easy as it has never been before. More and more people are forced to learn a second language; often as a means of obtaining an education or securing employment. (cf. Second Language Acquisition, 2006)
Due to the requirement of improving second language teaching techniques it is important to examine how language is acquired. How the first language of a second language learner influences his L2 acquisition is an important part of this field. Furthermore, the impact of the L1 on an inter-language can cause differences such as in cross-cultural communication in which the counterparts use a lingua franca such as English; hence it can lead to misunderstandings and problems in CCC.
