Ending the Oil Addiction Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Throughout the twentieth century, the United States has depended on oil as the primary source for fuel. When costs were lower, it was more economic to use oil and gas because of the high cost to efficiently produce alternative fuel sources. With today’s sky rocketing gas prices, alternatives need to quickly be made to protect the American economy. Everyday, we see the prices of gas rising as we continue to rely on the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for foreign oil. The oil addiction is coming to an end, and there are different alternatives to look into for new fuel supply. With some work, time, and money, the nation will be able to utilize these alternatives and free itself of oil dependency before the nation undergoes another oil crisis. In October of 1973, the nation suffered a terrible oil crisis when the OPEC nations cut off the exports of oil after a peak in crude oil was discovered. A system was put into effect, where people would have to switch off days, according to the numbers on their license plates, for when they would be able to get gas. ......
