A Doll’s House A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen gives insight into the woman’s role in a family. The play shows the difference between appearance and reality in a home. It shows deception between a husband and his wife. The play accurately illustrates the beliefs and structure of families during the time Ibsen wrote it, though it still proves true for many aspects of today’s society. In the play A Doll’s House, Torvald expects Nora to do the typical jobs a woman was expected to do during the time Ibsen wrote the play. Society expected the wife to raise, educate in morals and religion, and play with the children. If a wife becomes incapable of raising her children or does not set a good example for them, she becomes no use to her husband. Torvald shows his opinion on this when he exclaims, “But I shall not allow you to bring up the children; I dare not trust them to you.” According to the belief at the time, the husband manages the money in the family, not the wife. Nora’s actions of taking the money into her own hands and deciding behind Torvald’s back appall Torva......
