By: Stan Belaieff The Ballad of the Sad Cafe The Ballad of the Sad Café By Carson McCullers is about a old dreary town, where there is not much except a old mill, houses where the workers live, peach trees, a church, a miserable main street only a hundred yards long and a few odd characters during the story. Through out the story some characters change due to love, this essay will prove and show how love can change a person in this novella. The First Character is Marvin Macy “the handsomest man in this region, six feet one inch tall hard muscled and with slow gray eyes and curly hair. But he was not a person to be envied, for he was an evil character”. And the love changed this person because he fell in love with miss Amelia. “Before the time he loved miss Amelia could be questioned if such a person had a heart and soul. Yet there is some explanation for the ugliness of this character, for Marvin Macy had had a hard beginning in this world.
