Hamlet - Shakespear Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In Shakespeare’s play Hamlet there is a lot of conflict between the main characters. King Hamlet has just died and his own brother married his widow. King Hamlet’s son, Hamlet is now very upset because the throne is rightfully his, but he cannot have it because of his uncle. Hamlet is very upset about the whole situation as everything about it is sullied. Everybody thinks that Hamlet is being childish for mourning over his father’s death so much. After some time, Hamlet expresses himself in a relatively long soliloquy. Hamlet starts off his soliloquy by stating that the current situation is sullied in every way. I believe that sullied is the perfect word for Hamlet to use in his speech, especially due to the circumstances he is currently in. His first reference to the term sullied is “How (weary,) stale, flat, and unprofitable” (1.2.137). After this Hamlet continues in his speech about how completely wrong it was for his mother to marry again only two months after his fathers death.
