“The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Gilman and “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner are about two women that have some form of mental disorders that at the time of their lives were hard to understand and cure. Both women had someone to look after them, but the help of someone close to you is not always helpful. Sometimes all a person needs is their space and freedom. The first story is to explain the need for freedom is “The Yellow Wallpaper.” The woman in “The Yellow Wallpaper” has a nervous disorder. This disorder makes her tired and stressed at any time of the day or night without doing anything. Since her husband, John, is a doctor he requested for them to move away from their home to another closer to the country for a short while hoping the fresh air and the different environment would help ease his wife’s condition. Since the husband is never home and always working it is hard for the woman to keep busy. She loves to express her feelings and pass time by writing.
