1 ARCHIBALD LAMPMAN: THE CITY LIMITS The Railway Station and Among the Timothy Archibald Lampman infuses his poetry with a sense of reality which allows the reader to experience the world from his point of view. Lampman can rightly be defined as a “poet of nature,” not necessarily because his poems strictly describe nature scenes, but because he attempts to define the true nature of what he observes, and find the deeper meaning behind the inner workings of things. This description also applies to Lampman in a more literal sense, since his deep affection for all that is natural, and his extreme discomfort of all that is unnatural is also clear in his poems. By comparing The Railway Station, and Among the Timothy, these feeling and opinion become clear. For Lampman, nature seems to be a place of release, whereas the city is one of tension and turmoil. The imagery used to define the opposites of nature and technology, are often similar although seen from a starkly different perspective.
