D-Day: June 6th, 1944. Winston Churchill once said, “ Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter”. On September 1,1939, Europe erupted in what would be known as the biggest conflict known to man. For almost four years Europe would be controlled by Hitler and his Nazi regime. When the U.S. entered the war in 1941, Europe was a fortress ready to repel enemy aggression. By 1944, Britain was virtually an army camp, with 3.5 million troops soldiers, sailors, and airmen all training for the huge task that lay ahead. The invasion of Europe on June 6th, 1944, would be known as D-Day. It was the biggest fighting force the world had ever seen. It was the beginning of the liberation of Europe form Nazi power.
