This is because it was written in a manner that accommodates change. One way in which the Constitution can be modified is through the amendment process; another is by judicial interpretation. Throughout history, there have been two major schools of thought concerning the interpretation of the Constitution. Traditional or conservative constitutionalism maintains that the Supreme Court should interpret the Constitution as our founding fathers intended. Its polar opposite is liberal constitutionalism, which recognizes the fact that the Constitution must evolve along with the country.
