Determining the mindÂ’s role in the world can be very confusing. It is not uncommon to relate the mind to the brain. In fact, we know that the mind and the brain must work together. However, the brain is a physical object, whereas it is not certain if the mind is. If something pokes you, you feel a mental state of pain, but how can something poke through a state that is not physical? In other words, how can a physical object such as a needle, cause something weightless (the mind) to perform an experience?
Philosophers investigate the role and definition of the mind through many theories. The Mind-Brain-Identity Theory is well known in philosophy.
