Social Concerns of George Grosz. Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Grosz Grosz was born in Berlin on the 26th of July, 1893 and died in Berlin on the 6th of July, 1959 at the age of 66. when World War 1 started, Grosz was called for duty in the German Army however, was released as he was unfit but the following year was called up again as they were desperately in need for more soldiers. In 1917 Grosz attempted suicide and was put in hospital. Later it was decided that Grosz would be executed but was then diagnosed with ‘shell shock’ and was released from the German Army. Later that year Grosz joined a group protesting about the German War. Grosz was seen in court a couple of times and his fines were large however always escaped imprisonment. In the late 1920’s and early 1930’s Grosz aimed his drawings at Hitler and the Nazi’s, so in 1932 Grosz was forced to flee Germany and migrated to America. I think most of Grosz’s artworks have been about war, anti-war and have been against the government and important leaders. The first artwork I have chosen to analyse is “Hunger”.
