Both "The Star Beast," by Nicholas Stuart Gray, and "The Flight of the Snowbird," by Jean Lively, have a character
in it thats different and who are generally mistreated by others. The Star Beast is a human like alien who can speak
who is mistreated because those around him are unsettled or are afraid that a non-human creature is able to talk and
with human like intelligence, while Sheryl in Flight of the Snowbird is an autistic girl who is mistreated by her
brother Benjy for being a burden and an embarrassment for him. Its revealed that as inept as Sheryl is in everyday
life, she has one talent, which is the ability to ice skate.
The Star Beast is a gentle creature and did not deserve the cruel treatment he received. The people around him
were ignorant and couldnt see, or who refused to see, that he is an intelligent creature. He was treated like
Frankenstein's monster, although not as badly. The people around him labeled him as just an animal. The mentality and
morality of the people around him is that anything that isnt a human deserv......
