Willy Loman a tragic hero Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In Arthur Miller’s play, Death of a Salesman, Willy Loman is considered a tragic hero. Willy Loman just wants to be viewed as a good and decent human being. He also wants to believe that he is a well liked and decent person who does not make mistakes. However, this is not the case, for Willy makes numerous mistakes throughout the play and most of them come back to him. Willy also wishes for his two sons to become successful in their future, however how he grows them up is very different than what most parents would think is right. Even though Willy is not rich, in the higher class, or even part of royalty, like most tragic heroes are, he shares their characteristics and just wants to be well-liked and successful. Willy Loman is the common man, and being that he is capable of heroism and tragedy. Willy Loman’s main goal in life was to make his sons successful. Willy wishes his sons to be like him in the future and be successful. When Biff and Happy, his two sons, visit their father at home, Willy realizes that they are not how he wished to become.
