Since the beginning of time, people have looked up into the sky and wonders; “Is anybody out there?” Tales of invaders from outer space had populated storytelling, scaring and amusing children, and adults alike. Orson Welles, in one short October hour, changed the way people think, not only about attackers from Mars, but also the world they live in and the fine line that may separate fact from fiction. This proves that Orson Welles was a creative genius in America history. A genius that will forever be known in the history books as the man that scared America. It would take forty years after H.G. Wells1 wrote The War of the Worlds2, another medium, and the creative genius of another storyteller to make people panic over the thought of Martian invaders. Howard Koch, who had adapted the original story to fit the medium of radio, wrote the dramatization of the War of the Worlds. Koch included real locations in the script, as well as structuring the story as a series of news bulletins, gradually building suspense over the course of the program.
