Anti-Terrorism Bill Sustained by 9/9 Judge Ruling
Last week in the Supreme Court of Canada, the Anti-Terrorism Act was up for debate. The judges believed that the law was constitutional as it was since it had already passed the Oakes Test. It was the court hearing that solidified this decision. The court hearing lead to a nine out of nine unanimous decision to keep the ATA. The Judges stated the law needs to stand, because the defence was unable to prove the ATA is impractical for Canada. The defence was able to find different Charter violations to make the ATA sound like its restricting us to a police state, but they did not consider what the Charter reads. The Charter reads that these rights are not definate, if justifiable to protect the citizens. Every law including the Anti-terrorism law will have citizens proclaiming it is unconstitutional, these are the citizens who are not considering the greater good of the country.
