Extrasensory Perception Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

"ESP" is known as the sixth sense. It is when an individual receives information from beyond the ordinary five senses, sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. It can provide the person with information of the past, present, and future. "ESP" was used in 1870 by Sir Richard Burton describing the ability of a person who had been hypnotized or in a trance sensing things from not their usual five senses. In the 1930's, the term was popularized by experiments conducted by American parapsychologist J. B. Rhine at Duke University. He developed a set of cards consisting of five different symbols, a square, a circle, a plus sign, a five-pointed star, and a set of three wavy lines. Two people each went into two separate rooms with a clock. Every two minutes, the sender would pick up a card, concentrate on it, and the receiver would have to picture that card in their mind and enter it on the score sheet. When all twenty-five cards were chosen, they would compare their choices to see what cards they chose to be the same. The predicted score was 15 of the 25 cards. This is what this score mea......
